History
B-Unique was set up in 2001 by Mark Lewis and Martin Toher. After years of
working in the major label world they decided it was time to start a label that
was in tune with its artists wants and needs - B-Unique Records. The label's
breakthrough release was the self-titled Aqualung album in 2002, which went
gold. As a label we had further success with the release of several artists
licensed from the Vagrant roster including Alkaline Trio, Saves The Day and
Rocket From The Crypt. We also had successful releases in 2002 with Har Mar
Superstar, Hot Hot Heat and Coheed and Cambria.
In 2003, we signed The Ordinary Boys who had four consecutive Top 40 hits with
their gold selling debut album Over The Counter Culture. Following this success
the label signed the Kaiser Chiefs in 2004 whose album Employment now stands at
sales of over 1.8 million copies in the UK alone. 2006 saw The Ordinary Boys
frontman, Preston, grace the nation's screens in the Big Brother house causing
the band's single "Boys Will Be Boys" to catapult up the charts to #3, the
label's highest single chart position to date. Swiftly following this came the
release of The Automatic's debut album Not Accepted Anywhere spawning the
massive hit single !Monster! and charting at #3 in the UK album chart.
Fall 2006 saw the release of the latest album from The Ordinary Boys and the
exciting signing of The Twang. We jump started 2007 with the Kaiser Chiefs #1
sophomore album Yours Truly, Angry Mob in February. Meanwhile we were busy
recording The Twang's much anticipated debut album, which charted at #3 in the
UK album chart in June. The spring also included the signing of the legendary
Primal Scream. We're currently working on album for Primal Scream, Pull Tiger
Tail and Rex Radio. Keep checking the site for the latest news and releases
from us at B-Unique.
