THE FIRST TEN YEARS
B-unique was set up in 2001 by Mark Lewis and Martin Toher, both of whom had emerged from successful, major label A+R careers in the 90′s.Using their own capital, the label has become one of the UK’s most successful and consistent independents. The initial breakthrough moment came with the signing of Aqualung in 2002, who went on to top 10 success and a gold album, along with a plethora of exceptional synchronisations.
Acts, either domestically signed or licensed, like Alkaline Trio, The Ordinary Boys, Hot Hot Heat, Leaves, Saves the Day and Mull Historical Society followed. They all had strong selling albums and established the label as a real powerhouse.
However with the signing of Kaiser chiefs, the label scaled new heights. Their album, Employment, is one of the biggest selling UK debut albums of all time(2.0milliion) and a string of hit songs and albums followed, breaking in nearly every territory round the world. The Automatic, The Twang, Bedouin Soundclash and Primal Scream all followed, bringing the label continued success and a multitude of sales awards. Recent albums released, include the debut by Fenech-Soler and the side project from Tom Smith of the Editors and Andy Burrows of Razorlight, Smith and Burrows.
There is real excitement at B-unique about new signings, Kodaline, who are an incredibly talented band from Dublin.
